Hi Kevin, Sorry to hear about the data loss! For myself, I use a file synchronization tool called Unison to sync my work to my web server for just the case of hard drive crashes. It's already saved me a couple of times, and I recommend at least that for everyone. (I've recently installed Subversion, a CVS like tool, on my server too, which I am debating to move my file archive to as well, considering I rarely use large wav files and so blue project files would work well in Subversion I think).
