On Monday when I get back to my classroom I'll try a little compare with some of the other systems. Unfortunately, being classroom machines, these are all mostly still at Leopard so it will be a little difficult to get a real sense. I might update one of them to 10.6.6 to get a better feel for what changed. I have not found the detailed release notes as yet but I do know that one focus was 'graphics drivers' (uh-oh). If nothing else I'll take another system all the way to 10.6.7 and see if it is a repeatable problem or something unique to my laptop. My MacBook is also work provided but I convinced one of the campus techs to give me an install disk on permanent loan :-) I recently upgraded my personal backup with one of those new spiffy, cheap and small terabyte USB 2 drives. Work would not provide one but at just a little over $100 it is has been worth every penny already. I use a WD drive which is about the size and weight of a pack of playing cards and it can hold a Time Machine backup and most of my samples.
