Hi Steven, It just occured to me that it might be good that the instruments generated automatically by blue with the line object should not be numbered but named, that way if you are editing things by hand, or look at the generated csd, you know clearly what's going on, and some strange errors (like MIDI notes triggering these instruments) can be avoided. What do you think? Is it unnecessary or too much trouble? Cheers, Andrés |

Hi Andres, I'll take a look tomorrow to see if it involves a lot of work. I normally consider the generated CSD as something one shouldn't need to edit or look at and that it's more of an intermediary data format, so the idea there isn't such a motivator, but the one for MIDI seems reasonble to be concerned with (though I imagine if one is using MIDI notes one wouldn't be using LineObjects as they are involved more for SCO based work?). I don't know if using named instruments will increase generation time on blue's side or parsing time on Csound's time, which is another factor I'll have to look into. I'm about 2/3 of the way through with documenting the tracker and have fixed a couple things on the way. Also, I noticed that reording columns for a track is altogether unimplemented(oops!) so will do that tomorrow. I do need to get or make a diagram for the keyboard note mode like the psycle picture (don't think I can or should reuse theirs) so that might take a little time. I was aiming for tomorrow to be finished with this release but it might not happen until Sunday to make sure everything is in a presentable state. Thanks for the request and I'll get back to you when I have a chance to take a look! steven On 10/6/06, Andres Cabrera <an...@ge...> wrote: > Hi Steven, > It just occured to me that it might be good that the instruments > generated automatically by blue with the line object should not be > numbered but named, that way if you are editing things by hand, or look > at the generated csd, you know clearly what's going on, and some strange > errors (like MIDI notes triggering these instruments) can be avoided. > > What do you think? Hi Steven, Thanks for your reply. I feel like a spoiled child making this silly request... =) It's really so unimportant that I wouldn't mind if you drop it... =) Cheers, Andrés Steven Yi wrote: > Hi Andres, > > I'll take a look tomorrow to see if it involves a lot of work. Hi Andres, Requests are a good thing: while I might not alway agree with them or make them priorities, they often help to illuminate other ways of looking at blue and often can be very valuable to help bring up ideas for making blue better. =3D) For this one though, I realized that the issue would be much more further reaching than just the LineObject, as it basically would mean that *all* soundObjects that dynamically add instruments would need to be changed to use named instruments. Now, blue's code isn't so big that it couldn't be done in one sitting, but it's also not too big of an issue and so will put this one off. However, if it comes up again later in your work, please *do* bring it up and perhaps we can address it then. BTW: As a side note, I'm also skipping the x-axis label changes for the LineObject for this release. I took a look and realized that there's a lot more to it than I thought, and really, all of the LineObjects need to be revisited. They need to be able to handle exponential/logarithmic displays as well as curved lines, and I've known for a while that the drawing code needs to be redone as it's quite slow. So... it'll be on another release. (Sorry Menno!) Well, new release should be uploading momentarily. I'll do an anouncement when it's all setup. steven On 10/7/06, Andres Cabrera <an...@ge...> wrote: > Hi Steven, > > Thanks for your reply.
