Thanks for that info, I'll try to do some testing with both at ksmps=1. I ve got 1 on ksmps on both -- View this message in context: http://csound.1045644.n5.nabble.com/render-to-disc-issue-on-blue-tp5718312p5718337.html Sent from the Csound - Blue - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Ah yes, that should be for Disk Render settings! :) Otherwise, very glad that things are working there now. As for the performance, 2-3 minutes seems a lot! Are you using ksmps=1 with Disk and perhaps a higher one for realtime? I do this with my projects to get the highest fidelity when rendering to disk but some things I run in realtime do take a lot longer than the duration of the output (though, your case seems quite a bit much). I haven't been using the render to disk much though within blue, as I have an automated build process that generates CSD, runs Csound, then converts to FLAC, OGG, and MP3. I'll try to remember to look at the disk rendering, but if it slips through just file a bug report and I'll be sure to look again. Thanks! steven On Mon, Nov 26, 2012 at 6:25 PM, andriatheo <andriatheo@...> wrote: > hey Steven, > > Thanks for your reply!!! > > I ve tried the settings on the realtime render and nothing changed. hey Steven, Thanks for your reply!!! I ve tried the settings on the realtime render and nothing changed. Although when I did the same thing on the Disk Render tab it worked fine even if it takes almost 2-3 minutes to render a sample of 15secs! Thank you for your help!! -- View this message in context: http://csound.1045644.n5.nabble.com/render-to-disc-issue-on-blue-tp5718312p5718332.html Sent from the Csound - Blue - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hi Andria, Welcome! My guess here is that the default setting for the Realtime Render properties is off, specifically "/usr/local/bin/csound". I'm assuming you're on Windows from the "C:\" in the command. Could you try going into the Tools->Options, then to the blue tab, then Realtime Render settings. From there, try modifying the commandline. You could try first using just "csound" which I think will work on Windows. If that doesn't, you could try using the button to the right of the commandline to navigate the filesystem and choose the csound executable. One thing I don't remember at the moment is if render to disk always uses commandline csound or uses the API. My guess inn what is happening here is that when rendering in realtime, you may be using the Csound API option, which doesn't really look at that executable command. If this is the case, I can try to fix things for next release so that if the API is selected, it is used for both realtime and disk renders. Let me know how that goes and I can further assist if you're still running into problems. Thanks and good luck! steven On Sun, Nov 25, 2012 at 10:04 PM, andriatheo <andriatheo@...> wrote: > hey guys, > > first time im writting here > > well > I have an issue when I choose Render to Disc and I get this message on the > Csound (disk) > > Began Exec(/usr/local/bin/csound -+msg_color=false --format=wav:short -R -d > -m135 -o "C:\shakerattle.wav" "C:\tempCsd708704532037639611.csd"). > Ended Exec(/usr/local/bin/csound -+msg_color=false --format=wav:short -R -d > -m135 -o "C:\shakerattle.wav" "C:\tempCsd708704532037639611.csd"). > > Everything works fine on realtime and I ve got sound > I ve been using the instruments for a year now and its the first time I ve > got this problem. > > any suggestions? > > > > > -- > View this message in context: http://csound.1045644.n5.nabble.com/render-to-disc-issue-on-blue-tp5718312.html > Sent from the Csound - Blue - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Monitor your physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure from a single > web console. Hi Michael, In a new project, to create an instrument go to the Orchestra Tab (or open that tab from the Windows menu if it's not open). Next use the "+" button in the upper left area to add an instrument. Probably best to start with GenericInstrument which uses just Csound code. Write your code in the code area, without using instr and endin lines. Those are supplied by blue, as blue generates the instrument ID according the value in the table in the upper left. To use the PianoRoll, first read the manual to understand template strings: http://blue.kunstmusik.com/manual/html/pianoRoll.html On the score timeline, right-click on a SoundObject layer and choose PianoRoll to add it to the timeline. After that, you'll want to configure the template in the PianoRoll's Properties tab. Then back on PianoRoll Canvas, you can draw in notes using shift-click/drag. Hopefully that's enough to get you started. One thing you might want to do is open up the blue/examples/general/patternLayersGroupExample.blue file. That project is the one I used in the video I posted recently and has some piano rolls in the bottom SoundObject LayerGroup. You can try muting the other layers, then experimenting with that PianoRoll to get some experience using it. Good luck! steven On Sat, Nov 24, 2012 at 10:14 PM, Michael Sparks <michaelsparks37@...> wrote: > I've been introduced to Csound with "The Csound Book" by MIT press. hey guys, first time im writting here well I have an issue when I choose Render to Disc and I get this message on the Csound (disk) Began Exec(/usr/local/bin/csound -+msg_color=false --format=wav:short -R -d -m135 -o "C:\shakerattle.wav" "C:\tempCsd708704532037639611.csd"). Ended Exec(/usr/local/bin/csound -+msg_color=false --format=wav:short -R -d -m135 -o "C:\shakerattle.wav" "C:\tempCsd708704532037639611.csd"). Everything works fine on realtime and I ve got sound I ve been using the instruments for a year now and its the first time I ve got this problem. any suggestions? -- View this message in context: http://csound.1045644.n5.nabble.com/render-to-disc-issue-on-blue-tp5718312.html Sent from the Csound - Blue - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

I've been introduced to Csound with "The Csound Book" by MIT press. I learned more about the basics with Jim Aikin's "Csound Power!" this year. I've been trying to learn Csound ever since 2002. I'm new to blue and I haven't created a single sound with it. How do I create and play instruments in blue using the piano roll, which i never used? |

Hi All, I've posted a video discussing some of the new features in blue 2.3.0: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2QkPMP0Rrc&feature=channel&list=UL I've created a playlist for blue videos so new videos I post will get added there. I'm getting the swing of making these screencasts, so hopefully will get better as I do more of them. :) As for this particular video, it covers three main features from 2.3.0: pattern layerGroups, python console, and UDO group pasting. If you watch the video, you'll also find that I found some bugs. :P As mentioned on the blue list, I'm planning a new release next week to fix up some other bugs I found as well as introduce a new feature. Thanks! steven |

Hi all, Just wanted to let everyone knew I am working on replacing the text editor in blue with something more featureful. On thing I am planning on is a new autocompletion that will show the csound documentation for an opcode in a popup window.I have a prototype going for auto completion already, and hope to make some headway on the syntax coloring (requires writing some parsers). Other than that I found a bug we here automations were not correctly generating for time when the API is on and rendering from a time other than zero. I hope to have these things completed by early next week as I have workshop to give next Friday. Thanks! Steven |

Hi Jan Jacob, I don't imagine any problems. if you want to be sure though, you may want to make an extra copy of your ~/.blue directory before running. I expect though that there should not be problems. Thanks! steven On Fri, Nov 16, 2012 at 4:35 PM, Jan Jacob Hofmann <jjh@...> wrote: > Dear Steven, > > thanks for the info. The link now works again! Dear Steven, thanks for the info. The link now works again! I was a bit afraid, that my Csound 5.14 might be not sufficient but now I do see, Java 1.6 is (like before) the only minimum requirement. So I can see no reason that would hinder me from upgrading. great! Hi Jan Jacob, Thanks for letting me know about the manual. I did some work yesterday to redirect the wiki to the blue manual page and in that process I deleted the manual from the online site. I have restored that now so that links should work. What requirement are you curious about? Right now the limitation is Java 6 or higher and having Csound installed. Thanks! steven On Fri, Nov 16, 2012 at 4:09 PM, Jan Jacob Hofmann <jjh@...> wrote: > Dear Steven, > > this all really sounds amazing! Dear Steven, this all really sounds amazing! I would like to check the manual first for the system requirements etc. before I do upgrade, but the link to the manual seems not to work for me - neither the one you mailed nor the link from kunstmusik.com to the manual. Could you please check? Anyway, I 'm veeeery courious. Hi All, I'm happy to announce that blue 2.3.0 is now available at: http://blue.kunstmusik.com The big change for this release is the introduction of LayerGroups. LayerGroups are plugins that provide types of layers. Blue's SoundObject system is now one kind of layer; this release introduces a new PatternLayer for using a SoundObject as the basis of pattern score editing. Pattern LayerGroups allow drawing directly on the timeline on a pattern grid to denote where the SoundObject plays. A screen shot and documentation can be found at: http://blue.kunstmusik.com/manual/html/scoreTimeline.html This release also adds a new Python Console, updates to PMask, as well numerous bug fixes. I have also closed down the Wiki and returned to using Docbook for documentation; releases now include both a PDF and HTML version of the documentation. For 2.4.0, I will be working on an Audio LayerGroup type. The planned LayerGroup will allow doing DAW type work and will work together with blue's Mixer system. I am also starting to do some coding experiments for making blue operate more fully in realtime, such that score modifications, instrument modifications, and audio graph modifications will happen in realtime. Some of this work can be done already, while others will require changes planned in Csound6. I am planning to work on this concurrently with 2.4.x though I think it will take some time before this will be complete. The realtime changes for blue are planned for 3.0.0. Also for 2.4.0, I am planning on restructuring and continuing to fill out the manual. Depending on how long the realtime work takes, 2.5, 2.6, etc. will continue with new layer group types planned per release. I am also designing blueLive changes that will take advantage of the new layerGroup types as they develop. ChangeLog is listed below. Thanks and enjoy! steven [CHANGE LOG] >Notes for 2.3.0< [released 2012.11.14] NEW * Modular Timeline: * Layer Groups are now modular (plug-ins) * New LayerGroups: SoundObject (based on previous Score system), Pattern * (Please read manual entry for Score, sub-section Layer Groups for more information) * patternsLayerGroupExample.blue added to examples/general * Added "Search Csound Manual" option in Help menu to allow searching online Csound Manual using search terms (i.e. "guard point"); uses Google search * New Python Console window, allows console-interaction with current python code for inspection and experimentation * Added Steven Yi's "The Living Ocean" to the examples/pieces/stevenYi folder * Python: for Orchestra Library, added possibility to pass in either noteList or function that will generate a noteList(partials work too) to PerformerGroup's perform method. If a noteList is passed in, that same list will get distributed to each Performer to perform. If a function or partial is passed in, it will be called to generate a new noteList for each Performer to perform. Note: the function or partial should be a no-arg method, so use of partials (from functools) is useful here to fix args before passing in a function. * Python: PMask, added FuncGen and CombiGen Generators (in pmask/generator.py), useful for mixing in functional-style work with Generators. From py doc for the classes: * FuncGen: Generator that acceptors one generator and one single-arg function. Evaluation will call the passed-in generator, then apply the function to the generator. Useful with lambdas and partials for the passed in function. * CombiGen: Generator that acceptors two generators and one two-arg function. Evaluation will call valueAt on the two generators, then pass the results to the two-arg function for further processing. Useful with lambdas and partials for the passed in function. * VirtualKeyboard: added keyboard shortcuts when keyboard is in focus: * up/down: increment or decrement octave * shift-up/shift-down: increment or decrement channel * Debian/Ubuntu: blue starter script in blue/bin is now pre-setup to use the API when Csound is installed through apt-get UPDATED * Updated to Jython 2.5.3 * Modified UserDefinedOpcode List tables: * allow selection of multiple UDO's for copying and pasting * can now copy UDO Categories from the UDO Library manager and paste into list tables; all UDO's from that category and subcategory will be pasted into the target table (useful for keeping a group of UDO's together to paste into new instruments) * can now drag and drop UDO Category from the UDO Library to a UDO Table * SoundObjectProperties Window: * When editing SoundObject name, now updates as you type * When SoundObjectProperties windows becomes focused (selecting the window, pressing F3, using window menu), name textfield requests focus; makes it easier to edit SoundObjectName or tab down to other fields * Manual: * closed the online Wiki and migrated back to using Docbook * release once again includes HTML and PDF versions of the manual (located in blue/manual folder or blue.app/manual) * Blue Manual link from Help menu points to HTML version of manual FIX * Auditioning SoundObjects would cause a crash of program due to unnecessary deleting of Csound Object * Command-line compiling option for compiling .blue to CSD files was always reporting exit code 1 and error, even when compile was done correctly * Using "Paste" and "Paste as PolyObject" were incorrectly pasting soundObjects using the x-coordinate as the time value, i.e. instead of pasting at time 4 it might paste at time 80 if it was 20 pixels per second * CommandlineRunner - modified how commandline runner stops Csound to prevent hanging csound processes on Linux * UDO - When dragging from the library to a UDO list table, was allowing move option, when it should only allow copying * when creating new UDO's, name now defaults to "newOpcode" rather than "New Opcode", as the latter is not a valid UDO name * BSB - When API is not enabled, BSBDropdown should still generate with index value instead of dropdown item's value if automation is set to enabled * when opening projects that had temp files, do not add the temp file to the recent projects list * TrackerObject * made shortcut for ctrl-space and ctrl-shift-space also use control instead of command key on OSX to avoid issue with spotlight shortcut * fixed track editor sizing * fixed issue with OFF notes being editable, causing issues with not allowing moving past those notes with arrow keys. OFF notes can now only be cleared with ctrl-shift-space or a new note entered by using keyboard shortcut keys * changed backspace shortcut to shift-backspace, due to interfering when editing values INTERNAL * replaced passing of SoundObjectLibrary when saving/loading, now uses Map<String, Object> on load and Map<Object,String> on save, where object is a SoundObject and String is a uniqueId; make saving/loading generic and removes dependency on SoundObjectLibrary |

Hi All, Just another update about 2.3.0. The manual migration back to Docbook is taking a bit longer than originally expected. One of the things that's been rather involved is the updating of the Score section for the new LayerGroup concept. Also, I am seeing how very out of date parts of the manual have become, and I'm in the process of trying to reorganize and update it. I think though that the task is quite big, so I am planning a stop gap measure for the 2.3.0 release to have things partially updated, and am planning on a bigger updating of the manual afterwards. Estimating end of week for a 2.3.0 release. Thanks! steven |

Hi All, I am currently working on migrating the Wiki back to Docbook. While this is going on, I've made the wiki password protected. This is because I think I have had some hackers using my server recently and I suspect they might have gone through MediaWiki. I hope to get the documentation updated soon, and when done, will upload it for online reading. I will add a redirect from the wiki URL to go to the updated manual page once complete. Thanks! steven |
