I think this is normal if you do not have automationAllowed set.  The default should be to use automation and if enabled, it will generate a gk-var. I use this in my synths for dropdowns for things like filter types, oscillator types, etc. and using i(<my_dropdown>) allows for changing at runtime.

    iphs = -1

It IS running, but it seems weird to see:  if 1 == 1 and elseif 1 == 2
   if (1 == 1) then
    iphs = -1
    iphs = 2
