BlueList revived

;) I stopped updating the SF site because of bugs and the inability to get something done here. SF seems to have become stable again (crosses fingers) and I can again update the site with fresh software.

A fair amount has changed in the software since I last updated it here. Small changes have occured over the past few years and BlueList has entered another growth spurt.

Check the home page ( http://blue-labs.org/software/BlueList/ ) for more detailed information and if you feel like checking out developer versions of code, PLEASE use the Blue Labs SVN URL. The BL SVN is always going to be more current than the SF repository and you can get immediate changes vs. waiting for the SF cycle.... read more

What's going on

Ok, current things on the plate. I've re-implemented MIME parsing again. This is the most clean method so far and I'm pretty happy with it. I've tidied up a lot of cruft here and there and made the logic more conceptually stable. I've started doing some flowcharts which I'll put up on the website, I won't include them in CVS because they're pretty big and not necessary for building/using BlueList. BlueList is set to become the #1 mailing list software ahead of GNU Mailman if I work just a wee bit harder. I have to kind of laugh at that because SF stats are really broken and worthless. The counting of page hits and downloads is really broken (I measured w/ scripts), but oh well. Please visit the homepage for BlueList for the most current information, there's more there than is in this quick note.

A note on BlueList

The new postgres code is coming along well, BlueList is capable of using psql for antispam control. It's doing quite nicely and I've just added counters so you can monitor which regexes are hit most often. Please keep up to date at http://blue-labs.org/BlueList/. I update the ChangeLog and release version on the front page every few days but I tend to do work on BlueList every day.

Website update

The BlueList homepage, http://blue-labs.org/software/BlueList has been revamped with a lot more documentation online and in a much more eye pleasing form.

BlueList version bump - 0.2.0

BlueList is stepping into the SQL arena. I'm releasing a 0.2.0 version to reflect the significant code changes in the past months.

AR 7 - Version 0.1.137

ery large amounts of change. MIME structure has been completely rewritten. MIME structures are not yet used to send mail, that will be in the next release. However, the current code implements the MIME structures to start appending MIME parts such as footers etc.

Quite a lot of bugs have been fixed and BlueList is more efficient now. I've rewritten quite a lot of functions so they are more accessible from different parts of the code and made things much more readable.... read more

Many changes, updates, fixes

The last couple of months have been up in the air for me but I did have time every now and then to hanker down an get some work done on BlueList. I've changed the structure of things a bit preparing it for some large scale tests. I have one other issue standing in the way of this and that is the limiting factor of max recipients on the MTA side. Not to worry about this, it will be solved by the new routines I'm drawing up for MX resolve timing based sending. Basically fast resolutions will get sent in a different message than slow/hang hosts. This means that the bulk of the recipients will get sent immediately and BlueList will send the slow hosts in another email. This prevents the fast hosts from being penalized and keeps loads and resources low while punching mail out as fast as can be.... read more

BlueList 0.1.112

Implemented full MIME structure handling, still doesn't operate on the mime parts, just builds the containers and fills.

Fixed bug in vsnprintf() wrt msg body fill.

List text files support added

I've added the text files add routine, only footers are appended at the moment, nothing else. Do pay attention tho, footers will NOT show up in MIME encapsulated emails ...unless the email client is broken. The text is actually in the body but it comes after the end of the MIME delimiter. Support for MIME is scheduled to go back in sometime soon.

Ok then..bug fix, cull_dupes()

Like the subject implies, let's see how many bugs a day I can make.

Website back online

www.blue-labs.org is back online. the bluelist portion has been updated, including the 0.1.105 fix for the cull_duplicates bug.

Posted by David Ford 2000-09-12

Bugfix: cull dupes sometimes returned junk

the cull_duplicates() routine mangled the recipients list when all members of the recipients list were had the same email address.

Updates

Lots of things changing in my life but I didn't abandon my software entirely :)

Good news is that in the last several months, I've only noted two abort messages, both due to strangely formatted spams...not that we really needed them anyway but that brings up a good point. I need to build a hook for spam filtering ASAP.

Since the move, I've been rebuilding my home network and am happy to say the new set of servers is online and I'll have the blue labs website back up and running shortly... read more

Initial support for CGI mgt

I've finally gotten time to start the CGI interface for managing BlueList. 'tis a short and sweet note.
