I share your admiration for blosxom as an excellent tool for its niche.
The community is certainly not vibrant, but there are a few of us
die-hards minding the flame.

Recently there's been some activity devoted to preserving plugins (a lot
of bit-rot on the Sourceforge plugin registry) centered around the Blosxom
Wiki (http://www.muli.cc/). We have our own mailing list
(bl...@mu...), but I think most members also subscribe to this list.
