Could there be a way to display a summary or eye-
catcher entry that would only appear on the index page
and add "More..." to a "article" page.

Here's what I am thinking... I write a brief teaser (three
or four sentences) to entice the reader to read a
full "article" (i.e. something a bit longer than your
standard blog entry and thus makes your index page a
bit unattractive) and "More..." is placed at the bottom of
the teaser linking to the full "article".

The teaser should be a separate piece of text (not N
words of the article).

Yep, I agree with this, except for the particular details.
The way I'd handle it would be that you would use the normal
text box to add your entry. Beneath it would be another box
called More. So, you would use the same box for teasers or
'normal' blog entries. This just makes it easier from the
    admin perspective.

But yes, this is something I had planned.

I think were on the same page, Raymond.
