Hi all, Yesterday night I had the required amount of inspiration and nostalgia to proceed with the development of bitwm. I managed to rewrite some core parts of bitwm and fix many old bugs such as problems with grouping/detaching clients (tabs/groups). The sources are not yet available on CVS because my internet connection is not really working on linux yet, however I will make the sources available asap if anyone will have the time to test/debug the new code. Please let me know if you are interested in any kind of contribution (development, QA or whatever applies to your possibilities). Developers and QA specialists are very welcome. TIA, Alex |

Hi guys :) I want to say a few words about BitWM's state in our days... First and almost important is that the project is not DEAD at all, so dont even hope! :) And now about what i am doing and what are my plans... 1) I was using Emacs for few last weeks and learned many stuff about Lisp which is really cool (Thanks to Lg, JackaLX, tintin and many others from #emacs, #xwem etc at freenode irc.) And i decided, Why shouldnt i use a dialect of LISP as the main language of BitWM? So i called it Blisp and currently working on it. Why didnt i prefer things like ecl and librep... because it is so fucking big and it is way not lightweight... and that is not what we need in BitWM which is a kind of minimalistic WM. The Blisp thing is now in hard development and it can parse lists into Atoms and Lists... it is ready to write Variable handlers and Function handlers... when it will be done - we'll have Lisp integrated into BitWM and we probably will use it as one of the ways to make Modules and ofcourse Configs. 2) I fixed some major bugs in BitWM it self, like the one which was segfaulting BitWM while killing clients or leaving parts of decorations on the screen while the client was dead. Thanks to Lg again for helping me a bit :) 3) I fixed many many memory leaks in BitWM... thanks to ValGrind which is a super nice tool for debuging memory allocations etc. What is pending? I think the main thing is now Blisp and to make BitWM work stable... that is what i want before i'll release 0.1 stable :) So hey, guys, i understand you all dont have time to help me, but if you will some days in the summer, please write a letter here... i really have great plans about bitwm but i have even less time for it now... i have much work and i'm getting my driver licence now :-( Thanks a lot for support any way. Portage is similar to arch's ABS. "emerge something" downloads sources of "something" and it's dependencies, compiles them and installs automatically. So lots of development libs are already installed on my machine I'll leave computer to compile "gnustep-back-xlib" i found searching portage for xlib and try again after college On Wed, 09 Mar 2005 20:02:48 -0800, bit...@li... <bit...@li...> wrote: > Send Bitwm-kdev mailing list submissions to > bit...@li... >=20 > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/bitwm-kdev > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > bit...@li... >=20 > You can reach the person managing the list at > bit...@li... >=20 > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Bitwm-kdev digest..." >=20 > Today's Topics: >=20 > 1. Hm, probably by installing xlib from the portage. See, the portage is an collection of binary software right? so the shit is compiled somewhere on an other machine? if so -- there is no need in Xlib on local one.. only runtime libs.. thats how i get it. You need the X developer lib which is Xlib. Try to emerge it (i am not a gentoo user so u have to deal it on your own here). Hi all, Iv'e coded the whole night :-/ Anyway, we have a kbd like binding system for mouse now. The syntax is as follows: mouseBind "[Root|Client|Title|Foot] [Mod1+Mod2|ModN|Ctrl|Shift]+Button[1|2|3|4|5]" Command1([arg1, arg2, argN]); Command2(); [CommandN();] end; So all the mouse actions are build up from special commands. For example the command "MouseResize()" will start an Resizing event. I hope i will code some more and we will have a (working?) development-pre-alpha available :-/ That's it for now. B.R. Alex |

Hi, This is a small TODO/DONE/PLANS list to see what is done and what is pending. Any comments are apreciated. DONE: + Grouping + Parting groups into apart clients + Parting one client from a group + Adding a client to a group + Happy keyboard bindings + Very happy configuration files + Plugin support + Handler disable flags (to be setten by a SYS module which replaces some kernel code f. exmpl.) + Cool mouse resizing and moving TODO for alpha: - Happy mouse binding system (like keyboard has) - Add more commands available from the config (mouse and kbd) - Fix the lags (the main lag is viewable while killing a window, the windows decor keeps alive sometimes.. wtf?) - Don't try to implement new functionality :) - Fix allround small bugs. PLANS: * Wanna implement ICCCM and NETWM compabilities as a sys/icccmmod. * Make a small root-menu plugin. * Make a great plugin - theme maker... this one should disable all kernel's drawing actions and draw all stuff by him self. This plugin implements a theme system which is a cool interface change and configurable trough a config file. * Probably want to fix every little bug left before 1.0 release :-) Thats it for now folks. Best regards, Alex |
