I neglected to point out that you can't report this as a bug to
LG unless you can reproduce the problem on phones that have never
been touched by BitPim.  They do not run a general purpose operating
system, more like a bunch of hacks stuck together, with seemingly
random formats for files and data and methods for operating on 
them.  There is no documentation either for the kind of thing
BitPim does.
