My issue is more about the phone than about BitPim, but still hoping someone can help me here. I'm using BitPim 1.0.7 - Official Windows 7 Home starter edition Motorola K1m phone on Verizon Simple USB cable - NOT having problems connecting! I connect to the phone and successfully downloaded the directory and pictures, but, I'm having trouble with the SMS messages. For years, my SMS Inbox has been 'full' and I've been deleting messages one-at-a-time to make room for more. I should have used BitPim sooner (obviously) but waited till today when my phone is showing a symptom of corruption, and, BitPim can't read the SMS messages. Specifically, when BitPim tries to read the SMS data, it says "1/1" for a few seconds, and then it acts like it's finished, but no messages appear in the BitPim SMS database. I have approx 803 saved messages in the Inbox of the phone. Here is the corruption problem: This has happened a few times, that the screen on the phone doesn't fill completely. Only the top of the screen shows anything, and what it shows is mostly scrambled. There's wallpaper picture on the top left, sometimes "TV snow" on the top right (or else my wallpaper picture), and the bottom 3/4ths of the screen is white. If I try to use the buttons on the phone, the operational display seems to appear in a tiny rectangle in the top left corner, about the size of a micro-SD chip. (Also the phone's mini- display on the outside is blank). The first few times this happened, I was able to fix it but restarting the phone. The problem also seemed associated with the full SMS inbox, so I'd delete a few messages. (I'm not sure why I believed there was a connection - could be wrong about this, of course!). Last night, I deleted a few messages and made sure the Inbox was 99% full, not 100%. Sometime while I was sleeping, I got an incoming txt (I heard the sound). When I woke up and tried to view the txt, the phone screen is corrupt (as described above), and rebooting it hasn't helped. Taking the battery out hasn't helped. Taking the aux memory chip out and the battery out didn't help, although it did change slightly what the corrupt screen looks like. The phone still works to send and receive calls! And it seems like the button functions still work normally, but the screen (display) is too corrupted to tell what they're doing. So here are my questions: Is there any way I might use BitPim to retrieve ANY of the SMS data, even if it's partly corrupted? Is there any way to delete just one or two SMS messages from the phone, to see if this might fix the problem? (I was thinking it might be possible to use the buttons on the phone "blind" to try to access the SMS by rote and delete a message, or should it be done through a computer?) Is there any feature on the phone to do a "repair memory" operation? If all this fails, is there a way to erase all memory on the phone so I can at least start over? THANKS SO MUCH!! Sorry if this question is as much about the phone as it is about BitPim. --Gary |
