I did try to run as root, but no avail. My bitpim was installed through Synaptic (Ubuntu natty 11.04), so I assume that all the files should be there. However I wonder if the instructions you indicate are up to date and concurrent with the way the installation places the files. For example, there is no /etc/udev/rules.d/60-bitpim.rules, but there is /lib/udev/rules.d/40-bitpim.rules, also there is no /usr/bin/bpudev, but there is /lib/udev/bpudev and there is no "cellusers" group. In any case, I'm wondering: when I plug the phone in, shouldn't I see some port automatically opened in /dev, even without running bitpim? Many thanks for your time.
