Hi, I'm trying to read SMS messages from the phone over the USB cable on an LG Rumour on Virgin Mobile Canada. I had hoped to use the AT codes to do so, and when I spoke to the Virgin Mobile customer support folks before buying the phone they assured me that they weren't doing anything to block this. I think they are wrong. I installed the bitpim sources and forced it into the Sprint LG-LX260 profile that had been previously created to import/export phonebook entries. When trying to pull the phonebook off the phone (or anything else except the filesystem, actually) I get the message "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider" I guess my questions are as follows: 1) is this actually the case, or is there something else that could lead to this error message since I'm using a profile that doesn't quite match. 2) in a terminal program I also receive an error to the command "AT+CSMS?" which should list the supported SMS services. Is this correct and more confirmatory evidence that I'm just hosed and customer support lied to me? 3) so I think I'm down to using the filesystem interface to read the .dat files in the sms directory and extract the message text from there. I don't see any way to get the date and time out of those .dat files, though. Any thoughts? It sure would have been easier to use the modem commands to do this than to go fishing through files... I'm not terribly happy with Virgin at the moment. Thanks! --Derek |
