Its a little more complicated than AT commands. For an example take a look at the VX-8575 code (com_lgvx8575) since it is a similar phone protocol-wise. I had intended to add support for the VX-5600 myself but I haven't had the time. I might get around to it sometime in the next couple of weeks but if you want to take a crack at it go ahead.
