Basic usage of the tip for developers is:
First archive or zip (without any compression) all the
files you want to compress making sure you sort them
in your zip file, in order to be bmp near to bmp, html
near to html, and so on...
Then zip it with NORMAL OR MAXIMUM compression, you
will see you get an smaller file.
This my posting in a newsgroup:
Please tell everybody about this tip.
Files themselves: 908 KB
Traditional zipping: 364 KB
Forzing Traditional zipping: 340 KB
Zipping with none compression : 933 KB
New method zipped file : 216 KB
I'll learn you how to use New method of zipping. NO
NEED OF EXTRA SOFWARE.
This tip is only valid if you want to compress more
than 1 file, and it would work the best if the files
you are going to compress are related among them.
Let's say you 10 files. (908 KB )
And you compress them with MAXIMUM COMPRESSION, file
size is: 364 KB.
If you try to compress this file again with MAXIMUM
COMPRESSION, you get a file of 340 KB, Oh, this is not
enough.
But:
I can get the file to be: 216 KB without loosing
anydata.
Here's the process:
You compress them with NONE COMPRESSION, file size is:
933 KB and you call it: "none_compressed.zip" (Hey, up
to know we loose compression! Wait, wait)
You make a new zip file and you add to
it "none_compressed.zip" with MAXIMUM COMPRESSION,
let's see this new file, you call it: new_method.zip
It is 216 KB.
Let's see the results
Files themselves: 908 KB
Traditional zipping: 364 KB
Forzing Traditional zipping: 340 KB
Zipping with none compression : 933 KB
New method zipped file : 216 KB
We have won (216/364)*100 % respect the old method
which is:
The new method compressed file is 60 % of the
traditional zipped file.
We have won 40% of space, that's to say: 364-216 = 148
KB
