Alpha Launch Delayed

We're delaying the alpha launch to be at the end of February 2011 AT THE VERY LATEST. We are going to be using this time to rewrite ALL database communications to use PDO as opposed to PHP's MySQL library as the MySQL library uses PHP to do a lot of the work, while PDO does things natively as much as possible. This will increase bitBB's efficiency and speed even more, along with the monolithic design and caching etc.

Update + Auth rewrite + memcached - BIG NEWS!

Well, this is just a quick update to confirm that the project is still being developed, despite the absence of multiple commits every day. We also got two different pieces of big news =D

The preliminary authentication code, not that there was too much of it, is to be completely rewritten but will still be as secure with both client-side and server-side checks.

The other big announcement is that the memcached version is official now - every stable release of bitBB (every upload as a package) will be accompanied by a version of it with modifications to use memcached ( http://www.memcached.org/ ). The accompanying memcached version, if not released at the same time as the normal version, should be within a week of the normal version. It will also support all the same themes as the normal version.... read more

Pre Alpha Soon?

We're currently working on the Pre-Alpha which should (hopefully) be out by December at the latest.

Next thing on the schedule after that is a beta, then a full release. After that we're considering making a memcached mod for database query caching.
