In the process of handling Ticket RVX-10426-272 filed by Chris Geib of Wright Patterson, we determined that when going to the Update Center, he was intermittently accessing the pre-6.0 module archive. This was displaying modules that were not compatible with the 6.0 Dashboard (and maybe, though it is not clear, specifically with the 6.0.3 core update). When he tried to download those modules, he received an error message saying there were dependencies which could not be satisfied (see the biospice-error.jpg in the ticket tracker). It said the module could be downloaded by not enabled. He always declined to download the module.

Other times when he (rebooted the Dashboard and) went to the Update Center, the Dashboard accessed the current Update Center directory, which in his case displayed only the modules in the untested category which he had never installed.

This happened randomly and he was very frustrated.

I should note that when I was first playing with the installed version of the Dashboard when I joined the project in the end of June 2005, I also saw the modules in the pre-6.0 archive (including the biospice demo module and 2 Feasnet related modules). I am certain that I downloaded and installed them, but that was before the core 6.0.3 update was available. These modules appeared in the Update Center sometimes but not others.

We finally changed the permissions on the pre-6.0 archive so that no version of the Dashboard could access it. This should mean that when it tries, there will be an error message about not being able to access the Upate Center. This solves the Disappearing Module Problem but does not address why the Dashboard sometimes tried to go to the pre-6.0 archive. The latter is the focus of this Issue.

Valerie plans to create a new installer that incorporates the 6.0.3 update and whatever else is appropriate in hopes that this will resolve whatever the configuration issue might have been.

The ticket tracker for RVX-10426-272 should have all the files for this, including a zip of Chris' .netbeans/Biospice3.6 diretory.
