Better try this one on GNOME 2.20 or similar on older versions: Right click on your "GNOME Panel" > Click "Add to Panel" > Utilities > Keyboard Indicator > Add > then Close. Now, Right click on the "Keyboard Indicator" on your "GNOME Panel" > Click "Keyboard Preferences" > Layouts > Add > Select "Layouts: Bangladesh" and "Variants: Probhat" > Add > Close. Now you can toggle between Bangla and other installed keyboard layout. Probhat is a semi-phonetic keyboard. You can get the layout: Old one: http://www.bengalinux.org/images/probhat_layout_14_aug_2007.png New one [which might not included in x.org yet]: http://www.bengalinux.org/images/probhat_layout.png >> I made of success of output in Bangla on my Firefox after Akaash font installation. FYI -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [ooo-announce] PR: OpenOffice.org challenges Microsoft's Office "Test Drive" Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2006 23:01:32 +0100 From: John McCreesh <jp...@op...> Reply-To: ann...@op... Organization: OpenOffice.org To: ann...@op... Press Release - for immediate release Microsoft today announced the opening of a "test drive" so that people can see what Microsoft Office 2007 might look like when it finally goes on sale. The OpenOffice.org Community invites potential upgraders to go one better - download the full OpenOffice.org 2 office suite today for a test drive, and if you like it, use it free for as long as you like. It's the ultimate no-strings-attached test drive - if you enjoy the test drive, keep the car! As office software becomes a commodity product, Microsoft has been forced to make significant changes to the 'look and feel' of MS-Office 2007. Because of this, analysts now agree that migrating to Microsoft Office 2007 will be a major upheaval with a significant cost impact. Unlike changing to Microsoft Office 2007, changing to OpenOffice.org 2 does not require learning how to use office software all over again. Indeed, reports have shown migration to OpenOffice.org 2 is 90% cheaper than migrating to Microsoft Office 2007. For more information and references to the reports, please see http://why.openoffice.org ------------------------ About OpenOffice.org The OpenOffice.org Community is an international team of volunteer and sponsored contributors who develop, support, and promote the leading open-source office productivity suite, OpenOffice.org=C2=AE. OpenOffice.org supports the Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) OASIS Standard (ISO/IEC 26300) as well as legacy industry file formats and is available on major computing platforms in over 70 languages. Deepayan Why Jayanta Narayan Choudhuri did all the hooking and cooking for Bangla? Unicode solved the KhandaTa problem and after adding it in the font it works fine in both Windows and Linux. You can check all the Ekushey fonts, which are working fine. So we need not to worry about it. If he made a macro for M$ Word then I think it will work OK. But you don't know one thing, that you have to use Windows XP with Service Pack2 to get complete Bangla support. Also you have to replace the USP10.dll file from windows/system32 directory to Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11 or Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE10 to make bangla work in Office. Still there is some problem with pango and as I lost my broadband internet connection, I could not manage to submit the bug. Pango doesn't respect ZWNJ. So if you want to display KaHalanthKa you have to type KaHalanthZWNJKa, but with pango, it becomes KaKa, but with QT/Windows it becomes KaHalanthKa. So it's a serious bug I think. If this is not solved then you cannot type RaYaphala. Can anyone do it on behalf of me or let me know if that is submitted already? Regards Omi Deepayan Sarkar wrote: >[ posted on behalf of Jayanta Narayan Choudhuri ] > > >Unicode Bangla has progressed. Hello All, Ekushey is proud to release 2 new Unicode 4.1 compatible Bangla OpenType fonts. The latest fonts are Ekushey Azad and Ekushey Puja. Like the previous ones, These 2 fonts are released under GPL license. So you are free to download, use and distribute. Ekushey developers made the first High quality Unicode Bangla OpenType font Sagar, which was never released. Then they released SolaimanLipi and Rupali. After a long silence they released more 5 OpenType Bangla font. So by this time total number of fonts are 9. Ekushey is promised to deliver more then 50 Unicode Bangla OpenType fonts. You can get them all from http://www.ekushey.org/projects/otf_bangla_fonts/ News: Last month we had some problem with our web hosting as Ekushey is getting popular day by day. Last February we consumed 1.65 GB transfer. Thanks to our friend Sumit Ranjan Das for arranging the hosting. In march when we released FireFox's Bangla version, most of all national daily newspaper of Bangladesh cover the story and we got huge visitor and Ekushey crossed the allocated 2GB transfer. Then we apply to sf.net for hosting Ekushey project and they approved the project. Now Ekushey.org is hosted in sf.net and we are enjoying unlimited transfer, unlimited file storage. So now we don't have any tension and you all can enjoy the service by thanking to sf.net. Regards The Ekushey Team |
