I was trying to compile beep 0.9.6.1 on SuSE 8.2 today and had a few problems. configure went with no problems but make kept failing. Basically I installed a few *-devel (freetype2-devel, XFree86-devel,...) packages one by one (as they turned up as errors) and it worked. XFree86 or freetype2 are not mentioned at all in the README or INSTALL. Would it be possible to add to the README a list of needed packages (maybe even distro specific) required in order for newbies who don't know how to read make errors to compile beep? Or should configure scripts check for those packages? I've been using beep for a month or so and I have to say I love it, great job guys. Milos Jovanovic Serbia |
