http://www.sosdg.org/~larne/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=317 Summary: deadlock in playlist handling and vorbis playback Product: BMP Version: 0.9.7 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux (Gentoo) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Core AssignedTo: beepmp-bugs@... ReportedBy: pravus@... i have noticed that bmp will lock up occasionally when switching songs. after doing some cheesy debugging, i believe i have found a deadlock condition. it appears to occur when two threads try to lock both the playlist (PLAYLIST_LOCK() - PL) and vf_mutex (g_mutex_lock() - MX). assuming the two threads have ids 0 and 1, the sequence of events that i have seen looks like this: 0: PL LOCK: playlist.c: playlist_get_songtitle() 0: MX LOCK: vorbis.c: vorbis_check_file() 1: MX LOCK: vorbis.c: vorbis_play_loop() <- blocked 0: MX UNLK: vorbis.c: vorbis_check_file 1: MX LOCK: vorbis.c: vorbis_play_loop() <- unblocks 0: MX LOCK: vorbis.c: vorbis_get_song_info() <- blocked 1: PL LOCK: playlist.c: playlist_set_info() <- blocked * DEADLOCK * 1 needs to lock the playlist which is held by 0. 0 needs to lock vf_mutex which is held by 1. i'm not familiar enough with the code to know what can be re-arranged to avoid this situation. i also have not looked into this for other input modules. if you would like to look at my debugging source and output, i would be happy to provide it. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. |

Plus it seems to only be those two since I > have other plugins in that directory and they don't overlap with the other > existing plugins. Actually, I recently customized the "xmms-scrobbler" plugin for audioscrobbler. com to work with another website of a friend of mine. And found the same problem when both plugins were installed. So, I worked from the original code, merely adding and deleting functions as needed. The original plugin was built to work for both xmms and beep media player. Which it does. And so, mine does too. Next up was testing wheter both plugins work together. Which they did perfectly in xmms, but in beep media player things started getting messy. First I installed both. Booted bmp and went to the plugin configuration. I saw both plugins listed, and when I started my plugin everything went well (it was on top of the list). Then I disabled mine and started the original plugin. But in the debug windows all I saw were debug messages of my plugin, and messed up configuration variables. I disabled both and wanted to configure the original plugin, but the configure window of my new plugin showed up. When one of either plugins is installed, everything is fine. And when I changed the name of one of the two functions to show the configuration dialog, both worked ok too. This would mean changing every function name in my plugin to ensure both versions work side by side without overlapping each other. I'm using Beep Media Player 0.9.7 ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. |

http://www.sosdg.org/~larne/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=314 Summary: Give focus to the "jump to file" window when it opens Product: BMP Version: 0.9.7 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux (Gentoo) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Core AssignedTo: beepmp-bugs@... ReportedBy: daniel@... Currently when I open the jump window the playlist retains focus; since I _expect_ the window to get focus (xmms does that and I only switched recently) I start typing immediately and every so often what I type contains an "n" causing my entire playlist to be thrown out... The obvious "workaround" is to think before I type; but it would be nice to see this changed anyway :-P ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. |
