hi. just a quick, non-responsive reply: it's perfectly fine to ask
questions, etc., and you won't be judged on your newness to the beep stuff.

i think there are several reasonable policies and abstractions that one
could configure to provide the functionality you're interested in (and it is
useful functionality).
