Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi Reinout, Thanks for progressing the work on the definitionserver. I hope that the problems are being resolved. I would have a little time to have a go with some more testing - so can I take you up on your offer to send me the current version of the definitionserver. Hello, Those monster taxonomies keep haunting me. I've finally found an xslt processor that doesn't go through the memory ceiling. It keeps on grinding away and takes a couple of hours to chew through the taxonomy. For every object it extracts all useful information (inherited stuff, referenced objects, everything) and puts it in one file per object. Pre-generating so to say. work-in-progress. Hello Jeff, I managed some improvements today: * Parts are handled (checkboxes), including tooltips. * Properties with AllowedObjectRefs (previously the Relationships) are now displayed using a drop-down list of the allowed objects (i.e. the EquivalentTypes or whatever). * I swapped the xslt processor xalan for saxon and managed to get the complete hierarchy out without crashing. Also a search for "dike" in the bs6100 completed successfully. Only after two or three of these mighty feats it hoses the rest of the process... So I haven't put it up on the demo site yet. I converted your two files with an improved convertor. Your files had a list of Relations with the same NativeName, as each could only contain one reference to an object. The new bcxml allowes a whole list of AllowedObjectReferences within one Property, so I've lumped them all together. When you're ready to test I'll send you the current version, otherwise I'll wait for the rest of the problems to be solved. greetings Reinout -- Reinout van Rees - re...@va... | Time takes my time If my @altavista.net address is in | your adressbook, please replace it. | -- IQ, Further away |

Hello Jeff, The multiple search is working. Try http://vanrees.org:8080/definitionserver/taxonomies/bcxml.xml/textual/search/html?name2BSearched=elec+lock&locale=en for an example. When there is a 1-on-1 match between the search term and the name (not one of the synonyms), the match end up on top. The rest is displayed, though. Is that good enough an emulation of your original wish to just display that single hit? It is possible to redirect to the info page directly when there is a single hit, but not with the current (somewhat simple) system. greetings, Reinout p.s.: dunno if you knew: this list is automatically archived at sourceforge.net. So don't sent your passwords etc. this way. -- Reinout van Rees - re...@va... | Time takes my time If my @altavista.net address is in | your adressbook, please replace it. | -- IQ, Further away |

Hello Jeff, You can test the few improvements at http://vanrees.org:8080/definitionserver * Best match at top * Not visible: new bcxml taxonomy format * Empty page in IE problem gone (read: now you can have 'en-UK' as your locale). * multiple search terms not yet working though. I fixed the bug "empty textual search returns error". Added a new match to sitemap.xmap that handles the empty search. The stylesheet just shows the whole lot. Reinout |

No: go to http://bcxml.net/ and grab yourself a copy of the "upgrade xslt stylesheet". That'll convert your existing files to the newer format. No need to do any work yourself :-) You can also find the schema documentation there. I'll need to make a few adjustments to the wording here and there this week, but the format itself is fixed now. Hello Jeff, The following bug: defserver doesn't handle locales right yet. IE passes "en-UK" or something like that and the defserver doesn't like the additional "-UK". This results in a blank screen. Has been closed: The new bcxml taxonomy format uses xml:lang for indicating the language. The xpath/xslt build-in lang() function happily swallows en-UK etc., so the problem is fixed. I'll have to do some re-working on the search function as that one doesn't swallow the new format yet. I'll look at the multiple-search-term request and the empty-search-crashes-bug at the same time. Greetings, Reinout |
