No, the data must be in immanc/BayesAss format. However, there are several programs available that will convert other formats to BayesAss format.

Hi
Can you give me the name of a program that can convert genepop or genetix formats (or others) to BayesAss format, please. The data transformation would be really to long without program.
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
I am trying to get my input file to load and I keep getting the error message: "Incorrect number of entries in line >>". All lines in my input file have the correct number of entries and I think my file is formatted correctly. It is a space-delimited txt file. The only difference between my file and the example files (aside from different datasets) is in my file I only have numbers to indicate individuals and populations. Do I need to put "ind" before sample names, "pop" before pop names, and "loc" before locus names? Would somebody be willing to share an example of their functional data file with me so I can see how you formatted yours?
Thank you

Can you post your input file or send it to me? I will then check the format.

Dear Colleagues,
I succefully installed the Bayesass program but it doesn't accept my input file I have the same message ""Incorrect number of entries in line >>" My file is formatted as a space-delimited text but each sample is in an individual line, not like the example file where samples are behind the others !! Can you help me?
Thank you,
Sana

Dear all,
The program accept my input file (converted with Formatomatic, from Arlequin format), but return wrong number of alleles by locus, and doesn't detect missing data while "?" exist in the file? i send you the input file.
Can you help me, please?
Thanks in advance
Laurence

I also encountered similar problem. I managed to overcome the issue when I converted microsatellite data to Arlequin format using GeneAlex. I furter converted Arlequin format to Immanc(BayesAss) by using PGD Spider. Just try this!

Can this program be used for Haploid organisms?

Dear all,
I repost the same question as I didn't find the answer and I would need an expert light :
Can BayesAss be used for an haploid organism (using an artificial diploid dataset of homozygous individuals), with the aim of inferring recent migration rates ?
Many thanks in advance for your answer,
S.

No, the program is not valid for use with haploid organisms. If the haploid organisms have a sexual phase during which they undergo recombination you could try using an older program BayesAss- which is on the software page at rannala.org. That program was written specifically to analyze Coccidioides which has a phase of sexual reproduction that allows recombination but is haploid.

I am trying to analysis recent migration among three populations using multilocus sequences, which include one mitochondrial locus(haploid sequence) and other nuclear loci(diploid sequences).
I wonder that the BayesAss program is valid for use with mitochondrial sequences. The mitochondrial sequence is haploid, so I edited the haploid sequence to diploid dataset artificially. Is it possible?
And, I wonder that the program assumed that the data is in free recombination.
Please reply me back.
Thank you.

I have a touble that does the BAYEASS can run with gene sequences? if can, what is the input format? Can you send me an exmaple? Thank you very much.

You can use gene sequences by coding each distinct sequence as a different allele. However, you will need to have phased haplotypes for nucear genes. It is not appropriate to use a mtDNA locus.

I wonder if BayesAss accept microsat data either as number of repeats or length of the PCR fragments. I tried both and it seems to work, but just double-checking. Thanks!
Best,
Felipe

Hi,
I am trying to use Bayesass 3.04 with msat data, but it says it can't open the file and I don't know why. I attach the input file I'm using.

I would not recommend using mtDNA sequences. The current program is designed for diploid markers and assumes loci are unlinked.
