Pardon my ignorance... newbie I suppose...

One of my email accounts (through my ISP) uses basilix,
and attchments come through as .dat files instead of
the native file it was sent as. Is there a way to convert
them back to their native format (such as .doc, etc.)?
Thanks.

These attachments are probably ms-tnef attachments. You can open them
with an application called fentun which is found at: http://www.fentun.com/ .
There are versions for Linux and Windows.
