The freeze is (I think) much later in the startup process than the "normal" crash. I have seen that "normal" crash (after which SheepShaver keeps working) only in Tiger on PPC. I have never seen it in Leopard on PPC. At the moment I have no Tiger installation on PPC to test the current versions. The freeze that happens on my PowerBook G4 is in Leopard. It does not happen with the 2009-07-26 build, it does happen with the 2009-08-23, 2009-10-04, and 2009-10-18 builds. It does again not happen with the 2009-10-25 build. I tried again with the 2009-10-18 build. The freeze happens immediately after the MacOS welcome screen appears. The only line in Console is: 27-10-09 23:47:20 SheepShaver[152] Warning once: This application, or a library it uses, is using NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz. If I start the application in Terminal, there is nothing reported there. Ronald.
