Hi there, I've acquired a G5 somewhat recently, and discovered that, yes indeed, Classic isn't as compatible as all that. So, having had pretty good luck with SheepShaver in the past, I tried the pre-compiled OSX version that Gwenole has available for download. Well, it does work! Pretty much. The application unexpectedly quits when I launch it, except it doesn't...MacOS boots right up in a window, though the SheepShaver menu doesn't work, so it has to be force-quit if you want it to stop. The graphics in 800x600 mode are messed up...completely so if I have OSX running in millions of colors, partially so in 256 colors, and SheepShaver won't run at all if I'm using thousands of colors. With 640x480, everything is fine. I haven't tried compiling from source yet to see if that gets rid of any of those problems. Sound support would be useful, but so far this is looking quite promising as a more compatible replacement for Classic on recent Macs. --Eric |
