On Mac OS X, the configure script generated by autoconf did not work because it did not know about that version of Unix. What I had to do was replace the config.guess and config.sub files in the Unix directory with the versions from /usr/libexec I could be wrong here, or misunderstanding the problem, but if the program that autoconf and ./configure is generating will not compile, then doesn't that mean that the version of autoconf, or its data files, is incompatible with the SGI?
