The initial black screen? Yes, this is drawn correctly. :-)

It uses Shm.

This is the only mode that works. 16bpp and 8bpp/16bpp window modes all show
stripes, regardless of the display size. They sometimes also crash with a
"Segmentation fault at ..." message.

This makes it revert to the former behaviour (i.e. before your first patch).

I've also tried it on a Debian 2.2 (PIII/500, Linux 2.2.17, XFree86 3.3.6)
system and there it works very nicely. I wonder whether XFree86 4.x might
be the culprit?
