hello
i seem to be experiencing a conflict between the
basilisk ii ethernet driver and the NAT router module.
i can either use the ethernet driver, or the NAT
router module, but not both. if i want to use the
ethernet, i need to install the driver in my Windows
Network Control Panel and disable the NAT module. if
i try to use the NAT module while the Basilisk II
ethernet driver is installed, i get a blue screen
while Basilisk is booting.
"a fatal exeption OE has occured at 0028:c15b2651 in
VXD B2ETHER(01) +00001731. the current app will be
terminated ... blah blah."
i'm using win98 (1st ed) with all of the critical
updates installed.
directx 8.1
ie 6
basilisk II v0.8 build 142
geforce II mmx agp w/32 mb ram (manufacturer's drivers)
realtech rtl8139 ethernet card
700 mhz athlon t-bird
256 mb ram
gigabyte motherboard w/Via chipset
Robert Schlabbach's RASPPPOE v0.94 (ADSL software
installed in Windows Network Control Panel.)
i've not yet tried a different ADSL driver or
different nic.
i would be happy to provide any further information
needed.

in order to resolve the fact that i can't run both the
basilisk ethernet driver and the NAT module at the same
time, i've tried two other ADSL clients now. i just wiped
my C: drive and after reinstalling windows, i tried MacPoET
2.04 and NTS EnterNet 1.31 in order to re-activate my ADSL
internet connection.
both of the other ADSL software packages got past the boot
point when i tried to start the emulated mac. each
actually allowed the emulated mac to open a web browser and
download most of a web page. in each case, the mac crashed
before the page was completely loaded and locked up all
operations (both mac and windows)through the nic. i got a
blue screen that mentioned the VDX for the ethernet card.
a reboot of windows was required in order to restore normal
operations.
so ... i've still got this problem. i can't install the
basilisk II ethernet drivers in my Network CP and still use
the NAT Router module. it looks like the issue might be
either in how basilisk interacts with PPPoE ADSL software,
or perhaps it just doesn't like my nic (realtech rtl8139.)
i've tried the three most popular PPPoE packages on the
market, and still have an issue. i have not yet tried a
different nic.
