Few months ago I have found Zephyr project at http://www.cs.virginia.edu/zephyr/ but was very busy and forgotten to go there again... I intent to do that tommorow. If You have enough time please take a look. I think it can help development of BASIC compiler(s)...

It looks more consistent and better documented than the GCC (GNU Compiler Collection). But it's also less widely supported (number of supported architectures, frontend languages and (by far) number of users). Definitely worth checking out, though.
