Basically (no pun intended) most small programs and scripts such as CGI scripts have to be done with some hard to understand language such as Perl or AWK or one of the other complicated scripting languages.

With the development of usable Basic compilers and interpreters for Unix systems this may change and could open up the scripting capability to more people since programming in basic is probably much easier than these scripting languages.

I have added the ScriptBasic interpreter to sourceforge as an example of an option which can be used for this purpose.
