Monitor monthly internet Transmit and Receive bandwidth usage - Linux

Installed your app. I'm running Ubuntu 16.04. I like the layout and the approach however, Bandwidth shows my system to be online when I'm not. I have a switch to disconnect my router when I'm not using the internet. When I turn it off I am definitely NOT on line. Can you help?
Hi Charles,
you will have to provide a bit more information, as I am struggling to think how bandwidth is showing your system to be online, unless you are seeing the transmit and receive bytes increasing, when you have turned off the router.
In the configuration, you have control of which ethernet adaptors should be watched. (The lo (loopback) interface is ignored by bandwidth)
Tell bandwidth to only watch the one that you know to be used for internet access and not your personal network.
Bandwidth simply tallies the number of bytes transmitted and received on the given adaptor.
If you are sending requests out of the adaptor, I imagine that you would see some increase in transmitted bytes but if the router in physically turned off I wouldn't expect to see the received bytes go up by any significant amount. Bytes sent and received will include all of the control stuff as well as any data actually sent and received.
If you continue to have an issue, feel free to let me know exactly what the issue is and how it can be replicated.
I have a similar set-up and whilst I haven't noticed any issue, I can try to replicate the problem that you are having.
Regards
Rolf
