#1 connections reported but unused

I've got an instalation of balance where it connects to
two apache webservers. Everything goes fine for some
time but after a while I see a higher number of
connections reported in show than processes from apache
and start getting 'document contains no data' on the
browser.
When I send a kill through interactive command some
processes keep running and I have to kill them.
Don't know if this information is enough or even clear
so I wait your feedback.
