Hi all, I'm working on a Linux-based BACnet project and trying to extend a sample app (bacmini) on branch 1.4 of the bacnet-stack to fetch weather data using libcurl and parse it with cJSON. I've been attempting to modify the build system to include these external libraries, but I keep running into linker errors. I'm looking for guidance on how to properly integrate external dependencies like libcurl and cJSON into a modified sample app, preferably while keeping the BACnet stack structure intact. I've shared more details (along with a build error log) in this SourceForge thread: 👉 https://sourceforge.net/p/bacnet/discussion/402141/thread/2bfbe80a80/#3f1a Any help or tips from others who’ve done something similar on Linux would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ben |

Hello, Would someone be able to give me a tip on creating and compiling a super simple BACnet server with 2 points? I trimmed down the initial example server that is in the repo `apps/server` directory. This is my example in 99 lines of code: https://gist.github.com/bbartling/334b01026dcf74f78ab60f1d914f76d2#file-main-c Leaving the Makefile the same and running a make clean all and another make apps all of the original points come through for the demo of the original server apps/server way beyond my initial 2 points. Any tips appreciated! Thanks, Ben |

I've actually given up on a DIY PCAP app to create statistics of the BACnet network because of not being able to see all traffic through an *unmanaged *switch. It gets over my head on the networking level but I think you could try a HUB and a switch that supports port mirroring and see if you see anything different. Else take PCAPs at the router level. Someone else during that time frame for me referred me to try passive taps for ethernet device: Throwing Star LAN Tap - Great Scott Gadgets <https://greatscottgadgets.com/throwingstar/> Or a network switch that does support port mirroring: GS108EV3 | PLUS SWITCH | NETGEAR SUPPORT <https://www.netgear.com/support/product/gs108ev3/> I think the answer to your question is yes... but am not a wizard on the networking side. Look into the port mirroring thing for your switch that you do have.. Building network probably has a VLAN for the HVAC System or the port is not configured correctly. You usually have to work with the IT department to get it going. Most IT departments arent very familiar with BacnetIP and tent to lock out direct broadcasts. I am integrating elevator controllers into a campus wide BACNet system. The facility uses Niagra JACE devices. The elevators use our favorite BACNet stack – to which I have added support for the elevator LIFT and GROUP objects. I have tested my implementation with Cimetrics BACNet Explorer and YABE. Both allow me to discover and interact with the elevators according to the BACNet specification. When the elevators are connected to the facility network, the JACE can see and interact with the elevators – however other network issues (possibly broadcast storm and/or DDOS attacks) have, not often but repeatedly, taken down the ethernet communication in the elevator controllers. A manual reset of the controllers is required to get communication going again – which is not an acceptable recovery means. We decided to add a managed switch between the IT managed switch and the controllers. This switch has the Access Control Lists (ACL) to allow BACNet UDP data on port 47808. This was tested using YABE and it worked. When I arrived at the facility to install the new switch, it would not communicate with the JACE. So, the question is – has anyone else seen BACNet connectivity issues through a managed switch? Have I restricted things too much? We tried opening the ports to 47808-47817, removed the ACLs, and even did a factory reset on the switch. It just seemed like the switch and the JACE did not want to communicate. Again, taking the switch out, and JACE and the controllers talked just fine. Good day to all, I have run into a weird problem. I am integrating elevator controllers into a campus wide BACNet system. The facility uses Niagra JACE devices. The elevators use our favorite BACNet stack - to which I have added support for the elevator LIFT and GROUP objects. I have tested my implementation with Cimetrics BACNet Explorer and YABE. Both allow me to discover and interact with the elevators according to the BACNet specification. When the elevators are connected to the facility network, the JACE can see and interact with the elevators - however other network issues (possibly broadcast storm and/or DDOS attacks) have, not often but repeatedly, taken down the ethernet communication in the elevator controllers. A manual reset of the controllers is required to get communication going again - which is not an acceptable recovery means. So, the question is - has anyone else seen BACNet connectivity issues through a managed switch? Have I restricted things too much? We tried opening the ports to 47808-47817, removed the ACLs, and even did a factory reset on the switch. It just seemed like the switch and the JACE did not want to communicate. Again, taking the switch out, and JACE and the controllers talked just fine. Dear BACnet Developers/Team, I hope this message finds you well. My name is Paartha, and I am just beginning my journey with the BACnet protocol and its stack. As a beginner in this field, I am keen to understand the workings of BACnet in greater depth. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with any documentation, guides, or resources related to the BACnet stack and how the code is implemented and its operation. Detailed materials that explain the fundamentals and the practical aspects of working with BACnet would be incredibly helpful for my learning process. Thank you in advance for your support and guidance. I look forward to your response. Best regards, Paartha |

Good day all BACneteer's. Does anyone know, which Arduino RS-485 shield, the Atmel168 port for MS/TP simple server was tested with? I have a DFR0259 which is doing weird things. Seems to be doing a loop back when I turn it on .. .. it spits out frame after frame. The Auto Manual switch is in Manual. I see the CE (J1 pin3) go active true and enable transmit .. .. just not sure what is going on? |

Hello Mikhail, PROP_ALL is only associated with BACnet ReadPropertyMultiple service. In the BACnet Stack library, the Device object proxies for all its children objects and their properties. A device is only required to support PROP_ALL if it supports ReadPropertyMultiple service. *15.7.2 Service Procedure* *After verifying the validity of the request, the responding BACnet-user shall attempt to access the specified properties of thespecified objects and shall construct a 'List of Read Access Results' in the order specified in the request. If the 'List of PropertyReferences' portion of the 'List of Read Access Specifications' parameter contains the property identifier ALL, REQUIRED,or OPTIONAL, then the 'List of Read Access Results' shall be constructed as if each property being returned had been explicitlyreferenced (see Clause 15.7.3.1.2).* *...* *15.7.3.1.2 List of Property ReferencesThis parameter shall be a list of one or more BACnetPropertyReferences, each of which corresponds directly to a specificproperty of the object identified above. The property identifier ALL means that all defined properties of the object are to beaccessed, including any proprietary properties.* *The property identifier REQUIRED means that only those standard properties having a conformance code of "R" or "W" shallbe returned. The property identifier OPTIONAL means that only those standard properties present in the object that have aconformance code "O" shall be returned. If no optional properties are present then no entries associated with OPTIONALproperty identifier shall be in the 'List of Results' and if no other properties were requested, then the 'List of Results' shall bepresent and empty. The Property_List property shall not be returned when properties ALL or REQUIRED are requested. Seethe specification for the particular object type in Clause 12. If the property identifier ALL, REQUIRED, or OPTIONAL isspecified and any of the selected properties is not readable by this service, then a Property Access Error for that property shallbe returned in the List of Read Access Results as specified by Clause 15.7.3.2.* Best Regards, Steve On Sat, Jul 27, 2024 at 11:19 AM Mikhail Tchernychev via BACnet-developers < bac...@li...> wrote: > Hi, > I wonder if handling of PROP_ALL (8) is mandatory on BACnet servers. Hi,I wonder if handling of PROP_ALL (8) is mandatory on BACnet servers. I see that this property can only belongto device (tag 8) and only can be read with multiread. Bacnet-stack server does support it, is it necessary for each BACnetdevice to support it? And if not, what is the correct way to decline this request? VTS can simulate bacnet device but apparently it does not support multi read and property 8 only can be obtained with multiread as far as I can see. Any info is appreciated Thank you Best Regards, Mikhail Tchernychev |

Steve, Yes, this is what I was looking for. After looking at bip6_set_interface, we realized we need to add a configuration parameter to select which IPv6 address to use. For SLAAC, the interface might have both a link local and a global unicast IPv6 address. We are seeing customer use cases which require BACnet communication over the link local address, and other use cases which require BACnet communication over the global unicast address. We will need to configure which one so the customer can guarantee which one will be used.
