****This is an edited version of a previous post**** Hi All, I recently purchased a Dlink DNS-323 which is a network storage device and have installed Backuppc on it as I had seen it should work on the guide listed below http://wiki.dns323.info/howto:backuppc I have installed it pretty much as it is in the guide but instead of using rsync I am wanting to use SMB. I realise the benefits of RSYNC and I may convert to that later but for the moment at least do not want to have to install something on all my PC's, file server etc. On the DNS-323 it does not have the nmblookup executable however I can get it to see my PCs or so it seems as I am getting successful pings. The way I have done this is my listing my PC's in the /etc/hosts file. When I attempt to backup a share from any of my PC's which run a variety of Windows XP, Vista and a file server running Debian Etch (Linksys Nslu2) it says backup in progress for a couple of seconds and then gives the following error > This PC is used by root. > Last status is state "idle" (backup failed) as of 6/26 21:02. > Last error is "No files dumped for share shared". > Pings to linksys have succeeded 1 consecutive times. or in further detail the log is as follows > Contents of file /ffp/backuppcdata/pc/linksys/XferLOG.bad, modified 2008-06-26 21:02:13 > > Running: /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\linksys\\shared -U craig -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\ full -Tc - > full backup started for share shared > Xfer PIDs are now 1737,1736 > tarExtract: Done: 0 errors, 0 filesExist, 0 sizeExist, 0 sizeExistComp, 0 filesTotal, 0 sizeTotal > Got fatal error during xfer (No files dumped for share shared) > Backup aborted (No files dumped for share shared) > Not saving this as a partial backup since it has fewer files than the prior one (got 0 and 0 files versus 0) Any advice on how to locate the possible causes for this error would be appreciated. Thanks. I have searched google and the forums but can't find much which seems to relate to my problem or using smb shares. +---------------------------------------------------------------------- |This was sent by cra...@ex... via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@ba.... +---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
