backuppc here backs up localhost, 2 more boxes on the lan, and a centos VPS over the internet. i just upgraded the 3 local boxes to natty (this all worked under maverick).
at wakeuptime, only localhost and the centos VPS succeed. the 2 other local boxes log Unable to read 4 bytes. but they succeed via /usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_dump. so i don't get it. what could be wrong?

I'm surprised you didn't get a 'ping failed' error on the down machine
that would have blocked the backup attempt. The 'unable to read 4
bytes' message is not very helpful but it means that rsync didn't start
up or connect correctly for one reason or another.
