Some one one this had a link to a site where they had produced a iso disk
based on debian which you basically installed and you had backuppc installed
at the same time configured and running. I`m not able to find the link
anymore. Think it was in the bottom of someone`s signature, on their email.

I remember the thread but not the exact distro. I do know that Knoppix
is a popular Debian-based distro that runs off a CD. Give that a try
(PS- scroll past the initial German text).
