I was having trouble setting up ssh access last night. I always got ssh
errors about not being able to log in successfully when doing 'ssh -l
root localhost' as user 'backuppc'. Error was "Host key verification
failed." I followed the howto in the faq closely, tried a fresh 2nd and
3rd time but no luck.
After some experiments I found the problem: the host key wasn't in
backuppc's known_hosts file. A simple 'cat id_rsa.pub >
.ssh/known_hosts' in backuppc's home dir (/var/lib/backuppc on debian)
did the trick. (Note: id_rsa.pub is root's public key on the client
machine, backuppc's home dir and ssh files are on the server).
I thought you might want to add this little hint to the FAQ on the
website, so I added it to the "OpenSSH" section in the ssh faq html file.
I hope this helps someone,
Attached: new ssh.html, hopefully without errors ;)
P.S.: Feedback is welcome!
This was done on debian sarge.
