I came across BackupPC a little while ago and have been using it at home
quite happily. I've been rather impressed with it so far, the rsync
method is especially cool. So a big thanks to everyone working on it!
As the subject implies, I'm interested in writing a FUSE module to mount
a BackupPC database as a directory tree. This would have the advantage
of being able to use standard utilities to browse, read, and MAYBE
eventually write to backed up information (something tells me writing
would be a tricky subject).
So a couple questions for the audience:
1. Has anyone thought of, tried, or currently attempting this?
2. I'm thinking of writing this in Perl, mostly because BackupPC is also
in Perl and has FUSE bindings available. Maybe C++ would be a better
choice? I wouldn't expect a huge speed impact. Thoughts?
