#9 SquashFS suitable for archiving?

Do you see any reason why SquashFS (e.g. http://tldp.org/HOWTO/SquashFS-HOWTO/mksqoverview.html\) couldn't be used as backup2l driver backend?
It looks pretty attractive as it nicely retains unix attributes and provides random access as well as good compression.
