#18 restore using DRIVER_TAR_GZ_SPLIT fails

Restoring from a backup made with DRIVER_TAR_GZ_SPLIT fails when the archive actually contains multiple parts. (restoring if the archive only contains one part (aa) works)
I am using the GZ_SPLIT as I am using an USB harddrive with fat32.
The error message is:
Active files in <ar_all.1001>: 2
found in ar_all.1001: 2 ( 0 left)
