bacKgammon / News: Recent posts

bacKgammon (the successor of KFibs) has released the first public beta. Using the beta requires some familiarity with FIBS commands and an existing account on FIBS. The release has been tested extensively and works well. Give it a try, report bugs and request features!

While rewriting KFibs to make it more extensible and allow for other backgammon engines than FIBS, I noticed that the name wasn't really appropriate any more. So I decided to rename it to the more generic 'bacKgammon'. It is now everybodies guess, what name I would like to give the GTK port of the program.

To the outside world it must have looked as if I lost interest in the development of the program. After all, the last official release has been 6 six month ago. But I have worked on the program in the meantime and made substantial improvements to the board widget and finished planning for the proper handling of generic backgammon engines. The code of KFibs was a real mess that included the communication with the server throughout all the classes and widgets. The new code properly encapsulates the backgammon back-end from the front-end and should scale much better to future extensions.... read more
