[Babel-public] Agent not recognized?

Hi there,

I am discovering Babel and I have encountered a problem: I have set up 
the VMWare Babel 2.0 image on my ESXi and a windows Babel agent on my 
laptop. The agent is able to write data on /var/spool/babel/data_in of 
the babel server and the data module of Babel server is able to collect 
these data, but in the web console does not appear anything! No agent is 
automatically recognized! Why? Both client and server are in dhcp mode. 
Is this a problem?

too. I have received the email with the links, but these are broken!

leads to a 404 Page Not Found.

What linux are you trying to install babel in?
Did you install all the dependencies? basically:

libc6 > 2.4 This is needed to suppoprt inotify.
libxml2
libmysql
GNU C Extensions (standard in GNU/Linux, not in AIX(TM) or Solaris(TM))
autotools (autoconf, automake, pkg-config, etc...)

Nope, this is not a bug, you're just missing some dependencies, very
likely devel ones regarding to inotify support
So, don't worry, you'll have your Babel running and up pretty soon

[Babel-public] Error while performing make on Babel Enterprise v1.1

I am back to Linux from AIX because of lack inotify feature under AIX
platform, now I am ready with Apache+MySQL+PHP(with GD) for Babel console
but while running make against Babel server source code I am getting below
error, configure script run smoothly but at make I got stuck -

: undefined reference to `g_access'

babel-server.o(.text+0xa13): In function `babel_server_start':

: undefined reference to `g_access'

babel-incoming-monitor.o(.text+0x188): In function

Hi Nilesh,

Cheers for all the good things you said, We are flattered :-)

As long as you find all the headers,libs and we have in Linux, you
should be able to run the server, the problems, as I said, to find all
those tools.

Do you have any chance to install a virtual machine running Linux in
your environment? That'd work like a charm cause as you have probably
found out already, there're agents for AIX and agents for Tru64 might
not be hard to code.

Thanks Manuel, I appreciate your response.  The problem here is we don't
have any Linux hardware and I found Babel very useful for my environment as
it's one of the fantastic auditing software. 

 

Our environment is fully of AIX and Tru64, no Linux... :-( so the conclusion
is Babel server does not support AIX or Tru64?

Morning Nilesh, 

 

As far as I remember we have never tested babel server in a non Linux

machine, that's to say, we've never run the server on an AIX (we did

install hundreds of agents though without a problem)

 

I truly recommend you to use a Linux machine instead, you've already

successfully solved the getopt.h issue, but I really doubt if you're

gonna be able to overcome the inotify.h one.

Since inotify.h is Linux native, it's going to be hard to get it (I have

absolutely no idea if it has been migrated to AIX), even if you did, I

have my doubts about if you'd been able to run babel server smoothly. 

Keep in mind that inotify is not the only required header for babel, but

one of the lots you'd need, so this might be one of all the problems

you'd face.

 

On the other hand, if you used Linux you'd have no problems whatsoever

to run it. Besides, we'd be able to help you out much better during the

process.

 

Lastly, I've noticed you said you're trying to install 1.1 version,

right? Do you know that Babel 2.0 is available already? It's not the

last final version, though, but you might want to take a look at it as

it is shipped with loads of new features and new appearance as well. I

hope you'll like it.

[Babel-public] out of limit

Hi Everyone
I have successfully installed babel server, babel_console and babel_agent
(agent is installed on other linux machine)
when i click on View agent option, then it shows status with no data icons
and time to run new policyrun option with the red bar messages "Out of
Limit"
am i missing something?
though i have copied data from agent machine to server location
/var/spool/data_in by using scp command, but it doesn't show anything.

[Babel-public] Babel Agents RPM package

Hi all again.
Babel Agents (GNU-Linux, RedHat ones) has been packaged too :-)
So, yeah, now whole babel is packaged, at least, the last version =20
which in in Sourceforge.
I've finished all packages, the server one (which was finished two =20
days before), console and Gnu-linux agents today :-)

By the way, the spec file for babel agents is here:

It works in FC4, FC5, Suse 9 and Suse 10. I haven't got any chance to =20
test it on Mandriva.

Seem to be a error with your libxml but we need more info about your problem=
.
Maybe if you send us the list of your xml packages installed on your =20
system either version and that stuff we will be please to help you to =20
overcome the problem :-)
