Dear AzSMRC beta testers that are on Linux,
I have rolled the worlds most simple deb file for AsMRC. It makes sure that
java 5 and swt 3.2 are installed and then dumps all needed files
use 'dpkg -i' to install it, or use your favorite Debian/Ubuntu GUI package
I made this on and for Ubuntu, but I certainly cannot see this not working on
Debian or even if you convert it to an rpm that it would not work on RedHat
or any other flavor that uses rpms. A program called 'alien' can convert to
rpm for you.
Once installed, simply start AzSMRC with /opt/azsmrc/AzSMRC
If this does not work (i.e. if it does not find swt correctly), modify AzSMRC
file to include your SWT paths. If there is a java problem, make sure your
system has been configured to run with sun-java and not some other knock off.
Remember, linux can have MANY versions of java installed and there is
normally a utility to choose which flavor the system uses by default.
If any of you are good at writing bash scripts, I would love to enhance the
AzSMRC file to find your swt files and find log4j, etc and put them on the
path so that the Launcher could find it. This would greatly reduce the size
of the deb file if we could leave out all the other jar files and just have
them as dependents
Email me if you have any problems with this or if you have any ideas on how to
make this all work better on linux
