Hi, I invite you to announce Axualize releases at the XUL News Wire (a.k.a. xul-announce mailing list)online @ http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/xul-announce The goal is to turn the xul-announce mailing list into an independent XUL (XML UI) news source that helps to promote using XML to build rich UIs. You can check out previous XUL (XML UI) News Wire postings online in the close-to-realtime Gmane archive @ http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.comp.lang.xul.announce or use as an alternative the somewhat sluggish Sourceforge archive online @ http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=xul-announce The Gmane XUL News Wire archive is also available as a newservice @ news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.xul.announce I also launched the Open XUL Alliance site today online @ http://xul.sourceforge.net that lists Axualize on the front page. The site for now sports: * XUL News Wire - Breaking News About XUL; also known as the xul-announce Mailing List * The Richmond Post - Chronicle of the XUL Revolution; XUL News Weblog * xul-talk Mailing List - Beyond Mozilla; Talk about XUL issues touching more than one XUL motor/browser/runtime * XUL Lecture Series - Rich Clients, Rich Browsers, Rich Portals and much more * XUL Link-opida - Articles, FAQs, Cheat Sheets and much more Looking forward to your announcements. - Gerald ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca |

Frank, Here is your problem: <boolean id="ans"> <object idref="validator" method="validateForm"> <object idref="fields"/> </object> </boolean> The boolean tag has only two forms: <boolean>true</boolean> <boolean value="true"/> Of course you could substitute "true" for "false", but hey I am an optimist. :) The primitive tags are used to create instances of primitives. Since you already have an instance you do not need to do this. Your method returns a boolean so you can just put it in the model like this: <void idref="validator" method="validateForm" id="ans"> <object idref="fields"/> </void> This form would have also worked but is very redundant and I would not recommend it: <void class="java.lang.Boolean" id="ans"> <object idref="validator" method="validateForm"> <object idref="fields"/> </object> <void/> WR Russ --- Frank Burough <fwb...@ch...> wrote: > Hi-- > > When I just <echo> the result to a method call, I see the expected output. > But > when I attempt to assign the result of the method call to a boolean for > comparison ton contro logic, the method is not getting called, and the > boolean is set to 'false' (which may be the default?) > > I assume I am doing something wrong here, any help would be greatly > appreciated. > > > Here is a piece of my XML file: > > <echo> > <object idref="validator" method="validateForm"> > <object idref="fields"/> > </object> > </echo> > <if expr="ans == true"> > <echo> > <string>Validation Succeeded...</string> > </echo> > <else> > <echo> > <string>Validation Failed...</string> > </echo> > </else> > </if> > > That is, I call a method 'validateForm' with an ArrayList of data to > validate. > > Here is what I see: > > validateForm:We have 1 fields to validate > validateForm:Inside validateForm... > validateForm:String value: 'Title' > validateForm:Required: 'true' > validateForm:Integer type value is '0' > validateForm:The form return status is 'true' > true <-- this line is echoed from my XML file > Validation Failed... <-- echoed from my XML file as well > > And here is how I interpret what I see: > Thus, the validateForm method is called, and all my hastily-added debugging > prints out, then the resulting boolean is printed as 'true' as it should be. > However, in the lines that follow, where the result of the method call is to > be assigned to a boolean no debug lines from validateForm are printed, > indicating that it was not called. > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Tablet PC. > Does your code think in ink? Hi Frank, Ahhh, once again your logic makes sense, the syntax is just not cutrrently supported. Here is the offending piece: <boolean id="ans"> <object idref="validator" method="validateForm"> <object idref="fields"/> </object> </boolean> The primitive (<boolean><int><short><byte><char><long><float><double><string>) tags can only be used two ways: 1) With the value of the primitive expressed as the text of the element like this: <boolean id="ans">true</boolean> 2) With the value of the primitive expressed as the value of the "val" attribute like this: <boolean id="ans" val="true"/> In any case this does not limit you from doing what you want to do. The Symantics are just slightly differemt: <void idref="validator" method="validateForm" id="ans"> <object idref="fields"/> </void> Now the boolean result of the method call is correctly stored in the model as "ans". Thanks for pointing out another thing to clarify in the docs. Also, I may see about implementing a third form for primitives which would take the primitive wrapper as an argument now that I see that it may be more intuitive for some people. My worry is that "wrapper constructor" form requires a primitive object which already exists. If it already exists we are not really creating a primitive, but simply wanted to get at it to store it. In which case I don't see it as truly useful, it is simply longer syntax, and more work for Axualize. Still, I am open minded about it. The only real use I could see would be in creating "copies" of primitive wrapper objects, but that can already be done more easily. Hi-- When I just <echo> the result to a method call, I see the expected output. But when I attempt to assign the result of the method call to a boolean for comparison ton contro logic, the method is not getting called, and the boolean is set to 'false' (which may be the default?) I assume I am doing something wrong here, any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is a piece of my XML file: <echo> <object idref="validator" method="validateForm"> <object idref="fields"/> </object> </echo> <boolean id="ans"> <object idref="validator" method="validateForm"> <object idref="fields"/> </object> </boolean> <if expr="ans == true"> <echo> <string>Validation Succeeded...</string> </echo> <else> <echo> <string>Validation Failed...</string> </echo> </else> </if> That is, I call a method 'validateForm' with an ArrayList of data to validate. Here is what I see: validateForm:We have 1 fields to validate validateForm:Inside validateForm... validateForm:String value: 'Title' validateForm:Required: 'true' validateForm:Integer type value is '0' validateForm:The form return status is 'true' true <-- this line is echoed from my XML file Validation Failed... <-- echoed from my XML file as well And here is how I interpret what I see: Thus, the validateForm method is called, and all my hastily-added debugging prints out, then the resulting boolean is printed as 'true' as it should be. However, in the lines that follow, where the result of the method call is to be assigned to a boolean no debug lines from validateForm are printed, indicating that it was not called. |

Hi Markus, You may want to subscribe to the Axualize users mailing list. I am cross posting this response there for the beneit of others. http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/axualize-users I have to admit my own error here. While creating an example to answer your question I found a bug in Axualize which has been fixed this morning. It probably was not directly related to your issue, but you will want to get the new release anyway since it directly effects java web start. Once you have updated Axualize, here is a JNLP file which works. Notice that the URLs are file urls. Change those to HTTP urls or whatever you like. Yes, this is a core feature. Checkout the <process>, <get> ,and <post> tags. The process tag processes(or includes if you will) an XML document from a URL. The get and post tags do the same thing exception that they directly relate to HTTP requests and have the ability to pass Maps of Objects as HTTP parameters. The <get> and <post> tags also keep track of cookies so session management is included automatically. > > > Many thanks in advance, > Alex > No problem. The reason for the <relative-url> tag's existance is simply to aid those developers who compose JSPs in an XML editor that supports schemas. Here is what I mean. <load-classes href="<jsp:expression>request.getAttribute("foo")</jsp:expression>"/> is not legal XML (at least not until it has been processed by the servlet container) so the editor will complain when you save it since it cannot be validated. but... <load-classes> <relative-url> <jsp:expression>request.getAttribute("foo")</jsp:expression> </relative-url> </load-classes> or .. <relative-url id="myURL"> <jsp:expression>request.getAttribute("foo")</jsp:expression> </relative-url> <load-classes> <object idref="myURL"/> </load-classes> is well formed, valid ,and follows the Axualize XML schema. So I added the capability to pass a (only one for now) URL argument to the tag handler since I had a <relative-url> Tag handler which produces a URL instance from the text of the element or the "href" attribute. I hope my explaination has cleared things up a little. It is really helpful to use a poweful XML editor like XMLSpy. In order to facilitate this I had to come up with some creative ways to deal with dynmically created Axualize documents using JSP, PHP, XSL, etc... --- Frank Burough <fbu...@el...> wrote: > Russ: > I assumed the behavior when I used the <relative-url> tag. Russ: I assumed the behavior when I used the <relative-url> tag. Looks like the relative-url tag does nothing but add clarity? If so, I can shorten my files a bit by just adding my relative URL to the load-classes tag directly. thanks, Frank On Mon, 2003-03-10 at 14:59, Russell White wrote: > Frank, > > I need to rewrite some of the docs to be more clear. > > Here is something else I forgot to mention about load classes and most of the > other URL based tags in Axualize. > > By default "href" attributes in most tags are relative. > > So if I have an Axualize document at: > > /home/russ/axualize/xml/hello.xml > > and libraries here: > /home/russ/axualize/lib/* > > > and I execute it as follows > > java -jar %AXUALIZE_HOME%/dist/axualize.jar > file:/home/russ/axualize/xml/hello.xml > > Then I can load libraries like this: > <load-classes href="../lib/myLibA.jar"/> > <load-classes href="../lib/myLibA.jar"/> > > I think this is why I wrote the tag handler like I did. > > The only reason I included the URL argument support at all was to better > support cases where the URL was generated at document creation time time using > something like JSP. > > WR > Russ > --- Frank Burough <fbu...@el...> wrote: > > Hi-- > > > > I am attempting to load classes via two different jar files, with syntax > > like: > > <load-classes> > > <relative-url href="echo.jar"/> > > <relative-url href="swingutils.jar"/> > > </load-classes> > > > > > > To test this I first instantiated an object from 'echo.jar' only. Frank, I need to rewrite some of the docs to be more clear. Here is something else I forgot to mention about load classes and most of the other URL based tags in Axualize. By default "href" attributes in most tags are relative. So if I have an Axualize document at: /home/russ/axualize/xml/hello.xml and libraries here: /home/russ/axualize/lib/* and I execute it as follows java -jar %AXUALIZE_HOME%/dist/axualize.jar file:/home/russ/axualize/xml/hello.xml Then I can load libraries like this: <load-classes href="../lib/myLibA.jar"/> <load-classes href="../lib/myLibA.jar"/> I think this is why I wrote the tag handler like I did. The only reason I included the URL argument support at all was to better support cases where the URL was generated at document creation time time using something like JSP. Adding multiple <load-classes> tags works like a charm...If you update <load-classes> to handle more than one library, I would be glad to use it. Until then, adding multiple tags will work for me. thanks, Frank On Mon, 2003-03-10 at 14:44, Russell White wrote: > Hi Frank, > > The short answer to your question is that while the syntax you are using makes > sense (And I may chagng the <load-classes> TagHandler to accomodate it) it is > not technically correct (for now). > > The bad news: > Each <load-classes> tag can only refer to one library. > > The good news: > You can have as many <load-classes> tags as you like to load as many libraries > as you like. :) > > Look for mutiple URL per tag support in the next release in the next day or so. > > I hope that helps. Hi Frank, The short answer to your question is that while the syntax you are using makes sense (And I may chagng the <load-classes> TagHandler to accomodate it) it is not technically correct (for now). The bad news: Each <load-classes> tag can only refer to one library. The good news: You can have as many <load-classes> tags as you like to load as many libraries as you like. :) Look for mutiple URL per tag support in the next release in the next day or so. I hope that helps. Thanks for exposing something I had not thought of myself! That always helps. :) WR Russ --- Frank Burough <fbu...@el...> wrote: > Hi-- > > I am attempting to load classes via two different jar files, with syntax > like: > <load-classes> > <relative-url href="echo.jar"/> > <relative-url href="swingutils.jar"/> > </load-classes> > > > To test this I first instantiated an object from 'echo.jar' only. Hi-- I am attempting to load classes via two different jar files, with syntax like: <load-classes> <relative-url href="echo.jar"/> <relative-url href="swingutils.jar"/> </load-classes> To test this I first instantiated an object from 'echo.jar' only. It works just fine. I modified the XML to instantiate only an object from 'swingutils.jar'. It crashed trying to instantiate the object. Next, I removed the line loading the echo.jar file from my XML and re-ran my application. It ran fine and instantiated an object from swingutils.jar without error. I then reversed the order of the jar references (swingutils first then echo), and instantiated an object from swingutils. It ran fine. I added code to instantiate an object from echo.jar, and it crashed attemtpting to instantiate it. My conclusion is that only the classes in the first jar file are visible. Is this a known limitation or a bug? Or, am I once-again doing something foolish? At the moment, I can get by with importing only 1 jar file, but I can see where this may be a limitation in the future. Am I missing something? Thanks, Frank |

Frank, You must escape your embedded HTML properly by using XML entities for < and >. Remeber that because this is an XML document that you must distiguish between what is text and what is tag. :) The XML parser(Xerces) see your embedded HTML as child tags to the <object-script> tag. String s = "<html><h2>Header from an object-script</h2></html>"; should be String s = "<html><h2>Header from an object-script</h2></html>"; WR Russ __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi-- I am attempting to put HTML tags into text strings for page headers, text color, etc. with no success. Here is the relevant code for my first attempt: the object-script is declared before my <s:JFrame> tag: <object-script> String s = "<html><h2>Header from an object-script</h2></html>"; return s; </object-script> Within my JFrame, I add a label: <add> <s:JLabel> <object idref="s"/> </s:JLabel> <GridBagConstraints gridx="0" gridy="RELATIVE" ipadx="1" ipady="1" gridheight="1" gridwidth="2" weightx="1" weighty="1"/> </add> This generates a parse error: com.sequenet.axualize.AxualizeException: called in model:testForm at com.sequenet.axualize.handler.ObjectHandler.invokeMethod(ObjectHandler.java:242) at com.sequenet.axualize.handler.ObjectHandler.processMembers(ObjectHandler.java:87) <much stack trace deleted...> Caused by: Sourced file: <Inline eval of: String s = "; > Token Parsing Error: Lexical error at line 2, column 22. Encountered: <EOF> after : "\";": <at unknown location> If I remove the html tags from within the label string in the object-script, it works fine. Second attempt: Tried to just put the html tags within a <string> tag as the parameter to the JLabel: <add> <s:JLabel> <string><html><h2>This is the page header from a string object</h2></html></string> </s:JLabel> <GridBagConstraints gridx="0" gridy="RELATIVE" ipadx="1" ipady="1" gridheight="1" gridwidth="2" weightx="1" weighty="1"/> </add> In this case, I see no errors, but the label does not appear. If I remove the html tags, again, the label shows up as expected. Any suggestions on how to put HTML formatting into labels? Thanks for your help, Frank |
