My platform consists of:
2 Load balanced web servers (each running IIS)
I have reviewed the great doc: http://www.ihsen.com/support/InstallingAWStatsOnIIS6.pdf and while it is good it does not cover load balancing.
Does anyone have any information that can help me install awstats on my platform? Has anyone tried this? Do I install the following on both machines?
Is there any rebooting (downtime) involved at all?
You only need to install AWStats to one machine. The easiest thing for load balanced servers is to merge the log files from all servers then just use the one file to build your data. You can use 'logresolvemerge.pl' that is included with awstats-6.6.zip, you can read more on logresolvemerge.pl here : http://awstats.sourceforge.net/docs/awstats_tools.html
I've used it to merge files up to 6GB without any issues.
work through the documentation provided with AWstats, but you dont need to install on the production servers, just copy the logfiles over to another machine, and do all the work there. We use robocopy, but scripted xcopy will work just as well. I takes time to get all the pieces in place, it's taken me a good fews hours/weeks/months with the same set-up as you but with 6 load-balanced servers x 5 sites, it can be done...
