On the awstats statistics page for one of my websites, in the "Connect to site
from" section, there is a list of "Links from an external page (other web
sites except search engines)". The sites listed here have no relation with my
site and obviously they don't have any links to my site either. Most of them
are Russian (.ru) sites and I have no idea why they are shown in this list.
This is known as "referrer spamming". Some sites (often illegal sites) use
robots that simulate visits by user. These "visitors" to your website send a
dummy referrer pointing to the spamming site (in your case, these Russian
sites). The result is that the address of these Russian sites appears in your
lists of referrers ("Connect to site from") and you will eventually visit the
spamming site. Some websites publish their lists of referrers which make them
particularly attractive to referrer spammers.

Thanks for the reply. I know it is a bit late but is there a way to use some
type of filter on that section? For example, filter all ".ru" domains etc.
