Apache error 500 with 7.0

moving from 6.7 to 7.0, I get an error 500 when accessing the stats page. I
didn't change the config files, they worked fine for v6.7.

This is a vserver running ubuntu 8.04LTS with latest package versions

running the same page from command line outputs (visibly) correct HTML, so the
    issue is related to apache.

log- and error files show only "Premature end of script headers: awstats.pl"
with no further info about the issue

adding "ScriptLog /tmp/perl.log" statement to http.conf to get more info
brings nothing, after the %%response line there is nothing, before only some
http headers, but no perl error message or whatsover

any idea what further steps to do to narrow down the problem ?

Issue solved - I found the suexec.log file, containing :
: file is writable by others: (/........./cgi-bin/awstats.pl)

    chmod'ing it 755 solved it
