One thing to ensure is that you haven't somehow disabled the JTAG port via one of the fuses (hence the spares). I did that once, although I also seem to remember that the box simply would not respond at all when that happened. The other thing to check is to connect AVRStudio directly to the STK500 and see if you have any better luck. One other possibility is the power supply. If you have a single "wall-wart" connected to the STK500, the JTAG box should be able to steal enough power via the JTAG cable. This assumes that the current requirements of the two aren't too high. If you have a second supply it might be worth powering the JTAG box separately. > Jtag firmware needs updated?
