Hello Andrei, unfortunately this list has been mostly dead for over 4 years as all the main contributors including the founder of the mailing list from Rotomotion, Khan dude who is really good in the Kalman filters and the theory of flight and the French guy who created paparazzi project (and a lot other contributors and knowledgeable people) all moved on and probably forgotten about the group. If you look through the list archives you may pick up a few useful things, but nowadays there are software and hardware solutions that have moved much further than autopilot ever did. Arguably autopilots based on Arduino open source hardware are some of the better once for a beginner with limited budget: http://www.google.ca/search?q=autopilot+arduino Arduino hardware is relatively inexpensive, comes with development suite and there is tons of support for both fixed wing and helicopter platforms... Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for... ________________________________ From: Enea Andrei <ene...@gm...> To: aut...@li... Sent: Sun, June 27, 2010 10:00:20 PM Subject: [Autopilot] Hello Hello, My name is Enea Andrei and i am 22 year-old a second year student at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Bucharest, Romania. I have always had a passion for everything that can fly and now i seem to be closer and closer to taking part in the development of a flyfiing machine. Unfortunately my experience i close to nothing. Meaning that up until now from my teachers i have only learnt the basics and nothing more, not one of my teachers has actually used the word aeroplane at least once let alone "helicopter". As a carrier i want to be a programmer so the software part of the project is especially interesting to me, and i would like to take part in the development. there are a few problems here also however: -i don't have any experience of software development except for php and mysql and perhaps some javascript(the rest of the programming languages i only know at a basic level such as c++, java or c); -my linux experience is also close to zero as i haven't had the opportunity to work with one of these platforms(i am curently trying to take the CISCO basic linux administration diploma); As opposed to these minuses (if you haven't already disregarded this message and deleted me for your database:)) i do have certain qualities such as: -i work hard and a lot when i'm working at something i love; -i learn fast and always listen to my teachers without being a smartass; -i don't have any problem with doing the grunt work so to speak(if you have a problem with the website i will help if i can); I suppose that's all i can say about myself up until now nothing else actually comes to mind to be honest. If you think you can use my help and also try and find the time to teach me one or two thing i would be extremely grateful. I can't even begin to point out how important this oportunity to learn is for me. Being a software developper i know how important experience is and that there isn't a university , college or faculty in the world that can teach one software development quite the same as good old fashioned hard work. So, hope i haven't wasted your time and if anyone might think that they have a bit of time for teaching me i assure you your time will not be wasted. Yours faithfully, Andrei Enea P.S. i have just installed an ubuntu distribution on my notebook i hope that will do for now, but i don't have anything against reinstalling som other linux distribution |
